ARLINGTON, Va. — On Saturday, Nov. 16, the Scouts of Troop 1631, sponsored by Christ Church Parrish on Kent Island, were selected to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery.
The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is one of Arlington National Cemetery’s most iconic memorials, atop a hill overlooking Washington, D.C. The neoclassical, white marble sarcophagus depicts three carved Greek figures representing Peace, Victory and Valor.
Inscribed in the marble of the Tomb are the words: “Here rests in honored glory an American soldier known but to God.”
The wreath was made by a group of Scout parents with local greens harvested from Kent Island, Atop the wreath was a red, white, and blue decorative bow, which was donated by Murdoch Florists in Centreville.
More than 20 Scouts from Troop 1631 participated in the wreath laying, along with a Troop Honor Guard of four Boys accompanied by the Tomb Honor Guard of the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, known as “The Old Guard.”
