SALT LAKE CITY — It may still be sweltering, but summer will be over before we know it — and with the start of autumn comes some of our favorite annual events.
Check out what's going on in your neck of the woods in September:
Northern Utah
Weekends: Oktoberfest
Oktoberfest features a variety of local and regional artist displays, arts, crafts, German music and dancing, food, beer and more. This event is open on Saturdays and Sundays, from noon to 6 p.m., through Oct. 20. It's located at 9385 S. Snowbird Center Drive. Admission is free and parking is $10.
Sept. 8: Blues, Brews & BBQ
Enjoy live music at Snowbasin during the last Blues, Brews & BBQ event of the season, from 12 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 8 at the Earl’s Lodge patio, 3925 Snow Basin Road in Ogden. Live entertainment will feature Great Peacock, King Cardinal, and The Pour. Barbecue, sandwiches, grill items and salad will be available for purchase, along with non-alcoholic beverages and local draft beer. Admission is free.
Sept. 6–7: Brigham City Peach Days
This year’s Peach Days will include children's activities, a car show, live entertainment, a carnival, a parade and much more. The event is free. Times and locations can be found on the event website.
Sept. 27–28: Ogden Greek Food Festival
This annual event celebrates Greek culture by offering a taste of native cuisines and is hosted by Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 674 42nd St. in South Ogden. It will run Friday, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., to Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Salt Lake City area
Sept. 5–7: Utah Jazz & Roots Festival
This event celebrates jazz music, the history of the Utah Jazz, and Salt Lake’s diverse communities. It will feature a variety of jazz performances. General admission is free, and the schedule varies by day so check the website for details. The festival will be held at the Gallivan Center, 239 Main St. in Salt Lake City.
Sept. 5–7: FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention
This year’s FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention will feature guests Tom Holland, Christina Ricci, Kiefer Sutherland, Hayden Christensen and many more. Ticket prices vary by day and can be purchased online or at the door. FanX will be held at the Salt Palace Convention Center, 100 S. West Temple.
Sept. 5–15: Utah State Fair
The Utah State Fair will be held at various times Sept. 5–15; find each day’s open and close times here. Tickets for the fair featuring food, music, a carnival and more, start at $8; children 5 and under enter free. The fair is located at 155 N. 1000 West in Salt Lake City.
Sept. 6–8: Salt Lake Greek Festival
The 44th-annual festival will be held at the Holy Trinity Cathedral Greek Orthodox Church at 279 S. 300 West in Salt Lake City. Admission is $3, or free with a FanX wristband or current student ID; children 5 and under get in free. The festival will feature traditional Greek dances, music and food.
Sept. 14–15: Festa Italiana
This festival celebrates the culture of Italy by offering two days of food, music and dancing native to the country. There will be a pasta eating competition, live entertainment, Italian food booths, an Italian car show and more. It’s held at The Gateway at 18 N. Rio Grande St. and admission is free. It runs Saturday from noon to 10 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 7 p.m.
Sept. 28: Rock ‘N’ Ribs Festival
At this festival, a variety of local barbecue vendors will offer $3 sample plates along with some of their other favorite dishes. There will also be children’s activities and live music all day. Admission is free. The event will be held at the Gallivan Center, 239 S. Main St. in Salt Lake City, from noon to 7 p.m.
Central Utah
Now–Sept. 21: 46th-Annual Utah Quilt Show
The annual Utah Quilt Show features a variety of exhibits and will be held Tuesday-Saturday until Sept. 21 at the Springville Museum of Art, 126 E. 400 South in Springville.
Sept. 4–7: Ferron Peach Days
Peach Days offers a variety of family activities including a talent show, a human obstacle challenge, a parade, a cornhole tournament, and various booths and exhibits. Tickets are $7 per person or $25 for a family of five. Children 5 and under enter free. Visit the website for specific times and locations of events.
Sept. 5–7: Timpanogos Storytelling Festival
This fun-for-the-family festival celebrates its 30th year this September and will feature storytelling performances, puppetry, pottery and more at Ashton Gardens at Thanksgiving Point, 3900 Garden Drive in Lehi. Tickets start at $10 and can be purchased online. Event times vary.
Sept. 14: The Lights Fest
Depending on how soon you purchase them, tickets range from $35-$55 for The Lights Fest taking place at Bonneville Seabase, 1600 state Route 138 in Grantsville. Attendees will have the opportunity to send off personalized sky lanterns with tiki torches. The event begins at nightfall, depending on weather conditions.
Sept. 14: Provo Pride Festival
This year’s Pride will take place at the Utah County Historic Courthouse, 51 S. University Ave. in Provo. The event is free and goes from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Live entertainment, music and food will be featured.
Sept. 14: India Fest
The Sri Sri Radha Krishna India Fest will feature Indian food, entertainment, henna, art, photography and much more at the Krishna Temple, 311 W. 8500 South in Spanish Fork. The event will be held from 5-9 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for children.
Sept. 21: Harvest Moon Harrah
The 15th-annual Harvest Moon Harrah will be headlined by Ashley Hess of American Idol and feature live entertainment, children's crafts and games, face painting, pumpkin decorating, balloon animals, storytelling and more. This free event will be held at City Park, at Center and Main streets in Spanish Fork, from 3-9 p.m.
Southern Utah
Sept. 2–7: DOCUTAH
The International Documentary Film Festival will take place at varying times throughout the day and feature 65 films from 30 countries. The films will be screened at multiple locations in St. George. Tickets start at $10 and can be purchased online.
Sept. 20–21: Salt to Saint Relay
This bicycle relay takes place across more than 420 miles of open Utah road. Bikers will relay from Salt Lake City to St. George. Participants can register online before the event as solo riders or in teams of four or eight people. Prices vary.
