Five men were arrested on heroin charges in a month-long investigation of drug sales from a home in Bear, state police said Thursday.

In a search of that home and later search of another suspect's home a few blocks away, state troopers seized nearly 1,500 bags of heroin, Master Cpl. Jeffrey R. Hale said, adding police made three previous arrests in the same investigation.

Detectives from the New Castle County Governor's Task Force, assisted by the Special Operations Response Team, took resident renter Larry Foraker, 27, and four other area residents into custody without incident as they executed a search warrant at a home in the first block of Burns Way near Smalleys Dam Road, Hale said.

The other men were identified as Denzel Wright, 21; Larry Foraker, 27; Michael Miller, 40; Denroy Chambers, 23, and Lloyd Price, 20.

Police seized 812 bags of heroin, totaling 12.19 grams, during their search of the home, Hale said.

A 2-year-old in the home, determined to be a relative of Foraker, was taken into custody by the state Division of Family Services, he said.

In a subsequent search of Wright's nearby home in the 6700 block of Wyeth Place, police seized 650 more bags of heroin, totaling 9.75 grams, and $1,223 in suspected drug proceeds, Hale said.

All five arrested men were charged with heroin possession in the second-highest quantity category with intent to deliver, endangering the welfare of a child and conspiracy.

Each of them was committed to Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington after failing to post bail.

Wright, also charged with heroin possession in the highest-quantity category, had bail set at $122,500 secured.

Bail was set at $41,000 secured for Price and Chambers, $26,000 secured for Miller and $5,100 secured for Foraker.
