Concert series kick off this week in Sunset Beach, Southport, plus 7 more events

Music is in the air, most definitely, as Sunset Beach Sound Waves and Southport Summer Concert kicks off its concerts series this week. But if you cannot make it to those concerts, don't fret: There are more concerts and other events happening in Brunswick.

The Entertainers officially kicks off the Sunset Beach Sound Waves concert series Wednesday.

The Entertainers kicks off the Sunset Beach Sound Waves concert series with beach, R&B, rock, country, Top 40 music. The free concert will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 1 at the Village Park gazebo, 1791 Queen Anne St.

The Back Porch Rockers will kick off Southport Summer Concert series Thursday.

Southport Summer Concert series

Playing classic rocks and blues, the Back Porch Rockers kicks off Southport Summer Concert series, 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 2 at Franklin Square Park, 130 E. West St., downtown Southport. Free. Bring a blanket or chair.

The Tonez will be playing at Leland's Live at the Park on June 2.

The Tonez will be performing beach, dance, and rock music at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 2 at  Founders Park, 113 Town Hall Drive. Bring your own blanket or chair, food, and drink. Food truck will be on site. Coolers are welcome. Smoking is strictly prohibited on all town property.

First Friday Gallery Walk

Franklin Square Gallery in Southport is showcasing the work of two members Deborah Voso and Jennifer Qin, whose art works exhibit an international flair. A reception will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 3 during downtown Southport’s First Friday Gallery Walk. Light refreshments will be served. 

Voso, featured 2D artist, brings her lifetime love of photography and her inspiration from nature and her global travels to her abstract paintings. Voso’s keen sense of balance between form and movement make her work appealing to both traditional and contemporary art lovers. She uses fluid paints, resin, and inks in an experimental manner, allowing them to flow together in dynamic colors or subtle tints.

Born in Shanghai, 3D artist, Qin was vigorously trained in drawing and in writing Chinese calligraphy. However, her career choice was made by academic criteria and she was sent to study Mechanical Engineering, and she worked as an engineer for many years in China. After moving to the United States, Qin decided to pursue her interest in art, earning a Bachelor of Art in graphic design. After exploring different media, she found her passion for pottery. Her work incorporates the artistic elements of balance, rhythm, and harmony, with the precision of engineering.

Oak Island Concert Series

The Cruise Brothers Band will perform R&B, country, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, June 3 at Middleton Park Amphitheater, 4610 E. Dolphin Drive. Free.

Ocean Isle Beach Summer Concert

Also known as the Peggy Hughes Concert series, North Tower will perform beach, Motown, disco, funk, and rock music. The free concert starts at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 3 at Town Center Park, 11 E. Second St.

Historical Southport bicycle tour

Want to discover Southport? The Adventure Kayak Company is offering a two-hour guided tour, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, June 4. The tour fee is $35 and includes includes a bicycle and helmet, if your bring your own bike the cost is $30. Meet at 807 N. Howe St. For reservations or more information, please call 910-454-0607.

Movie in the Park

Enjoy family movies under the night sky in Leland while watching the movie, “Encanto.” The Madrigals are an extraordinary family who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia in a charmed place called the Encanto. The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift — every child except Mirabel. Bring a blanket or chairs and a picnic. Food truck will be on site. Alcohol or pets are not allowed. The movie will be shown at 9 p.m. Saturday, June 4 at Founders Park, 113 Town Hall Drive, Leland. In case of inclement weather, the movie may be canceled. 

Holden Beach Concert Series

The Main Event Band performs R&B, soul, beach, country and funk music, 6:30-8 p.m. Sunday, June 5 at the pavilion under the Holden Beach bridge, 131 Jordan Blvd. Refreshments available for purchase. Bring chair or beach towel. Free. 910-842-6488.
