Singer Sara Evans holds livestream concert benefiting Evansville theatre
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Entertainment venues and arenas are among the many industries impacted by COVID-19.
Artists are turning to new avenues to reach audiences and one local theatre was chosen to benefit from a creative concert.
Sara Evans is a multi-platinum entertainer with five number-one singles like “Suds in the Bucket,” “Born to Fly,” and “No Place That Far,” but now she has a new album which is unlike any others.
Some of the promotional profits are landing here locally.
In her first solo studio album in three years, Evans is back on the charts. This time, she is taking a new direction.
“One of the songs we’re doing is ‘Crazy Love’ by POCO, which I absolutely love,” Evans said. “It’s one of my favorites on the record.”
Her new album “Copy That” is a 13-song collection that spans six decades, as well as features both iconic music and songs that have given her inspiration.
“We’re going to give it our all,” Evans shared. “We’re going to be doing some new songs for the new album."
"We’re nervous about that because we haven’t seen each other in over three months, so that’s where I’m going right after this interview - to rehearse those songs and make sure we don’t mess up,” Evans laughed.
Since the pandemic has put touring on pause, “Copy That” was celebrated Friday evening with a virtual performance.
“I’m just like everyone else - my world has just kind of shut down," Evans explained. “All of our shows have been cancelled.”
Part of the proceeds from the online concert is benefiting five local venues in four states, including Evansville’s Victory Theatre.
Leaders at Victory Theatre tell 14 News that opportunities like this virtual performance are an excellent way to keep its patrons engaged.
“Just because they’re great venues,” Evans added. “We would love to help every single venue in the country so they can hang on and not have to close their doors during this time.”
The album, which released earlier this month, opened at number one on the iTunes Country Chart.
"Hopefully we’ll get to be back out on the road soon - sooner rather than later,” Evans smiled.
In September, the singer is releasing her memoir titled “Born To Fly,” where she will not only tell stories about what it’s like living in the spotlight, but also where she finds inspiration among other life experiences.
