Loudoun Hosting Series of 3 Drive-In Movies At Segra Field

LEESBURG, VA — The Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services is hosting a series of three drive-in movies at Segra Field in July. Tickets for the first movie will be available Monday, July 6.

The movies, the titles of which have yet to be released, will be shown on three consecutive Fridays: July 17, July 24 and July 31. The parks department said it is hosting the series of drive-in movies to mark National Park & Recreation Month.

As Virginia’s enters a new phase of its coronavirus reopening plan, Loudoun officials are looking for new ways to "create a spirit of community for Loudoun residents,” Steve Torpy, PRCS director, said Wednesday in a statement.

“These popup movie events are just the thing to bring all ages out for some safe fun and relaxation during these challenging times,” Torpy said.

Tickets must be purchased online in advance. No tickets will be sold on-site. Tickets will be available until 7 p.m. on the day of the event or until tickets are sold out. The parks department will provide a link for ticket purchases one to two weeks before each event.

Tickets will be $20 per car. A limited number of VIP parking tickets will be available. When completing ticket purchases, attendees will be required to provide details on the vehicle that will be brought to the event. A confirmation email will be forwarded to all ticket purchasers and must be printed to enter Segra Field. Staff will be scanning all purchased tickets for entry.

Gates for the drive-in movies will open at 8 p.m. Staff will direct attendees to designated spaces in the lot. Attendees will not be able to select their own parking space. Staff will direct larger vehicles to spaces that do not impede viewing from other vehicles.

Cars will park in alternate spaces. Attendees can watch the movie from inside their vehicle or seated inside the open trunk of their vehicle, as long as the top of the trunk does not exceed the top of their vehicle when lifted.

Audio for the movie will be delivered via FM transmitter. Attendees should bring a portable radio or be prepared to tune their car radio to an FM station. Engine idling during the movie will be prohibited.

The movie will begin at approximately 8:30 p.m. or sunset. Attendees will be allowed to bring their own food and drink to enjoy in their vehicle. No alcoholic beverages are allowed. Any trash brought in or created during the film must be removed. There are no public waste receptacles available.

Restroom facilities are available for single use. Pets will not be allowed at the event.

Segra Field is located at 42095 Loudoun United Drive, Leesburg. For more information, visit the parks department website or email the Loudoun parks department at prcs@loudoun.gov.
