Castle Creek man facing federal child porn charges

A 40-year-old Castle Creek man was arrested on Friday on a federal criminal complaint after he was accused of attempted sexual exploitation, possession of child porn and attempted receipt of child porn.

Allegations in the complaint state Chad Swartwood impersonated a teenage girl online to try to convince people he believed to be teenage boys to send him sexually explicit photos of themselves, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District Court of New York in Syracuse.

Swartwood also is accused of having possessed images of child porn on his cellphone, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. On Friday, he appeared before a judge who ordered the defendant detained.

If convicted of all counts, Swartwood faces a mandatory minimum of 25 years imprisonment and a maximum term of 110 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000 and a term of post-imprisonment supervised release between five years and life, as well as mandatory registration as a sex offender.

This case is being investigated by U.S. Homeland Security Investigations, the New York State Police Computer Crimes Unit, and investigators from the Broome County District Attorney’s Office. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael D. Gadarian.
