Man shot twice while housesitting in Cleveland’s Lee-Seville neighborhood

CLEVELAND, Ohio – A Maple Heights man was shot in the back and leg while housesitting for a friend in Cleveland’s Lee-Seville neighborhood, police said.

The 30-year-old man told Cleveland police officers he did not know who shot him Thursday at a home on East 156th Street near Miles Avenue, according to a police report.

An ambulance took the man to University Hospitals, where he underwent surgery, police said.

The man said he was in the home just after 5:15 p.m. when he heard a knock on the back door. The person at the door asked for someone by name, but the man could not remember the name, police reports say.

The man opened the door and immediately heard a gunshot. He slammed the door just before he heard a second shot, police reports say.

The man ran out of the home through the front door. He ran down the street, where officers and EMS found him shot, police reports say.

Investigators found two bullet casings near the home’s back door. They also found a bullet hole in the door, police reports say.

Detectives from the Cleveland police department’s Fourth District are investigating the shooting.
