Frances Gayle Newlin Borland went home to be with the Lord February 12, 2019, surrounded by her family at Sacred Heart Hospital in Destin, Florida. She is a resident of Birmingham, AL. Fran was born in Decatur, Alabama to MAJ. Donald Murray Newlin and Katherine Forbes Hardiman on March 12, 1942. She attended school in Decatur, AL and Butler High School, Huntsville, AL and graduated from Ensley High School in Birmingham, AL in1960. In February of 1962, she married Robert Quinn Borland, an oral surgery resident at UAB. Fran was president of the Dothan Junior League, a long time Girl Scout Leader and dedicated volunteer for Save-A-Life Ministry in Dothan. Her husband, Bob, preceded her in death in October 2003. She and her entire family honored him a year later by opening a dental clinic in the Amazon jungle of Brazil in his name. Fran married Roy Gagliano in September 2006, returning to her former hometown of Birmingham. Fran loved to dance, cook and serve others. She is survived by daughter Laurie Borland Montgomery of Columbia, TN; daughter Leisha Borland Hall (Mark) of Dothan; daughter Robiann Borland Gilbert (Brent) of Dothan; and son Robert Quinn Borland, Jr. (Elizabeth) of Marietta, GA. She leaves behind eight grandchildren. A visitation and memorial service will be held in Dothan Saturday, February 16, 2019, with visitation from 1:00-2:00pm and service at 2:00pm at Westwood Presbyterian Church, 5480 West main St., Dothan, Alabama 36303 and graveside service to follow at Memory Hill Cemetery. Donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Sacred Heart Hospital / Emerald Coast ICU unit in Destin, FL in lieu of flowers. Family-Funeral & Cremation, 7253 Plantation Rd., Pensacola, Florida 32504 is in charge of arrangements.
