NEW YORK — New York and New Jersey are both seeing a rise in coronavirus cases among young adults.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Gov. Phil Murphy are calling on young adults and their parents to cooperate and prevent further spread of the virus.
In New Jersey, a cluster of about 20 cases of COVID-19 is believed to be linked to a house party in Middletown, Murphy said.
Middletown Township’s Department of Health and Social Services is looking into the cases which have occurred in the teens aged 15 to 19. They believe the house party in question occurred on or about July 11 on West Front Street.
The town is asking parents who think their children may have attended or interacted with anyone who did to self-quarantine and monitor for signs and symptoms.
Similar clusters from parties popped up in Rockland County and Chappaqua in New York, where the state has seen the biggest spike in cases among young adults ages 21 to 30.
The positive rate in that region has grown above 13%, compared to 9% the week before.
Gov. Cuomo also released a new public service announcement, aimed squarely at the young and seemingly, invincible.
This comes as the governor has pushed for stricter enforcement of bars and outdoor drinking.
More than two dozen liquor licenses have been suspended and 400 violations have been issued.
The governor also noted that the work of contact tracers has prevented about 5,000 additional infections.
