A Lacey Township man who sold a 35-year-old woman fentanyl in November that ended up killing her has been charged in her death, authorities said.
Jehmar Barrett, 34, drew a charge of strict liability drug induced death Friday on top of earlier charges in the case.
The woman died in Toms River on Nov. 24, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said in a release.
Police that day went to an Alabama Avenue home on the report of an unresponsive female. Officers found the woman had died of an apparent drug overdose, Billhimer said.
County and Toms River detectives discovered that Barrett sold the victim heroin and cocaine the day before, Billhimer said. Barrett was initially charged then with various drug offenses and eluding.
After more investigation and a toxicology test, the prosecutor’s office confirmed the woman had fentanyl in her system. Further lab analysis showed that the fentanyl Barrett sold the woman matched that fentanyl, Billhimer said.
