Accused killer Claudia Hoerig says the conditions where she is being held at the Trumbull County Jail are less than ideal to cut her toenails.

In a court filing to the Trumbull County Clerk of Courts, she has requested nail clippers in order to clip her toenails.

“It has become a health issue since I have to file my nails on filthy floors and now I have this nail infection. My toe-nails are huge since it is not possible to file them on the dirty floors, which, btw, have never been sanitized with bleach or disinfectant in the 11 months I’ve been in this jail [sic],” she wrote.

Hoerig is being held on murder charges for the death of her husband, Karl Hoerig, in March of 2007 in Newton Falls. She then fled to Brazil but was returned back to the U.S. earlier this year to face the charges.

She wrote that she has filed a grievance with the Trumbull County Sheriff on the subject, but she hasn’t received a response. She said she believes that she is being discriminated against because she is Brazilian.

Already, Hoerig has filed a number of complaints and petitions, asking to move her case out of Trumbull County, asking to have her murder charge dropped and to throw out her case and saying she is being harassed by jail staff

Hoerig was unsuccessful in those complaints.
