Brooklyn-based owner Meyer Landau has placed Bethune Hall at 2915 Main Street up for sale. After paying New York State $384,000 for the former University of Buffalo property in April, it now has a Brooklynesque asking price of $2,150,000.
Landau was the high bidder on the 118,000 sq.ft. building and six-acre property in a June 2005 auction conducted by the State. The structure was designed and built by Lockwood, Green & Company in 1915 for the Buffalo Meter Company, a manufacturer of liquid meters. The four-story building had been State-owned since 1971 and housed the SUNY School of Architecture and Design until 1993.
The owner had plans to convert the building into 101 loft-style apartments and 18 patio homes according to the listing at Pyramid Brokerage Company. It is unclear if Landau is only looking to cash out or if he would pursue the project should a buyer fail to surface.
