LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — About 150 food trucks in 20 different states were funded by the World Central Kitchen to serve meals to furloughed federal workers, including in central Arkansas.
Kyle Pounders is the chef and owner of Excaliburger in Little Rock, but he’s recently acquired a new ‘concept food truck’ that he says will serve multiple purposes.
Though it wasn’t going to be revealed until the spring, he says duty calls, and he was ready to serve hot, quality meals to government employees who’ve gone without a paycheck for a month.
“We serve free chef’s made, delicious hand made beautiful, nutritious meals any time there’s that type of a need. Whether it is a natural disaster or in this case a man-made disaster,” Pounders said.
His truck is set up in a parking lot outside the Clinton Center in Little Rock. It’s serving meals every day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. for all furloughed workers and their families.
According to the founder of World Central Kitchen, Chef Jose Andres, the food trucks will continue to serve through the weekend and into next week so furloughed employees have a chance to get their paychecks.
