PREP ROUNDUP: Tularosa blanks Hagerman, 42-0, on homecoming

TULAROSA — During homecoming Friday night at Bob Cerny Stadium, the No. 4-ranked Tularosa Wildcats (5-1) blanked the Hagerman Bobcats (0-6) 42-0.

Seniors Caleb Ball and Toby Carrillo ran for a combined 254 yards with three scores.

Sophomore quarterback Traiton Griffin went 6 for 8 with 85 yards passing and two touchdowns. Senior Jacob Paz and junior Anthony Betancur each caught one touchdown.

Griffin tallied seven tackles and one tackle for loss, while senior Manny Cuellar had six tackles and one tackle for loss.

UP NEXT: Tularosa opens District 4-3A play at Loving (3-3) at 7 p.m. Friday. Loving fell to New Mexico Military Institute, 15-6, in week six.

Cloudcroft

CARRIZOZO — In the District 3 opener, the No. 5-ranked Cloudcroft Bears (4-1, 1-0) hung on to beat No. 7 Carrizozo (3-1, 0-1) 30-26 Friday night at Laabs Field.

Cloudcroft trailed, 26-14, at the end of three quarters.

UP NEXT: Cloudcroft plays at Mescalero Apache at 7 p.m. Friday.

Mescalero Apache School

ROSWELL — The Gateway Christian Warriors (2-1, 1-0) defeated the Mescalero Apache School Chiefs (3-3, 0-1) 56-6 Friday night.

TULAROSA — On Saturday afternoon, Tularosa (3-8) snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 3-2 win (18-25, 25-15, 18-25, 25-22 and 17-15) over the Lordsburg Mavericks (2-10) at the Michael Dorame Gymnasium.

UP NEXT: Tularosa hosts Capitan at 6 p.m. Thursday to begin District 4-3A play.

ROSWELL — On Thursday night, Gateway Christian (10-2) swept Mescalero (6-6) (25-18, 25-18 and 25-17).

UP NEXT: Mescalero hosts Gateway Christian at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Mescalero will then travel to NMMI at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
