Flora Oyola of Boston, known as Dona Flora, died Wednesday, Dec. 5 at her home. She was 93.
She was born in Naranjito, Puerto Rico.
She moved to Boston in 1983.
She dedicated her life to her family, the church and to the service of anyone who needed help.
Mrs. Oyola was devoted to the Blessed Mother Mary and established “La Legion De Maria” at the Basilica of Our Mother of Perpetual Help in Boston.
She prayed every day and maintained family traditions by cooking and gathering her family every Sunday afternoon.
She lived her life according to the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy by feeding the hungry, visiting the sick and imprisoned, helping the poor, comforting the sorrowful, counseling the doubtful and praying for the living and the dead.
Wife for more than 60 years to the late Guadalupe Fuentes, she is survived by five daughters, Carmen Reyes, Elena Fuentes, Isolina Fuentes, Yolanda Fuentes and Zaida Fuentes; six sons, Rafael Fuentes, Miguel Fuentes, Jose Luis Fuentes, Hector Fuentes, Roberto Fuentes and Javier Fuentes; 39 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 10 at The Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help – Mission Church 1545, Roxbury.
Interment will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Boston.
