Robert "Bob" Arthur Whitmer, 98, of Rogers died Friday, February 8th, 2019. Bob was born November 16, 1920 in Curlew, Iowa to Raymond and Effie Whitmer. Bob joined the Navy in 1939 as a corpsman attached to the Marines in WW II where he was part of the Battles of Guadalcanal and Tarawa. He married his wife of 72 years, Mildred Gilbert Whitmer on June 15th 1946. They eventually settled in NWA where he co-owned and operated Pea Ridge Lumber and Hardware in the '70's and early '80's. After that, he continued to work until he officially retired in 1992. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, a son Steven Ray Whitmer, daughter-in-law Debbie Whitmer, grandson Zach Snow, and sister Catherine Hamilton. Bob is survived by his wife Mildred, three sons, David Whitmer (Hiwasse), Jeff Whitmer and wife Carrie (Fayetteville), and Tommy Whitmer (Hiwasse), brother Warren Whitmer (Tucson Ariz.). He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Misti Wilson, Stephen Polk, Wes Whitmer, Rachel Kopek, Thomas Autrey and Chelsie Harper and 2 great-grandchildren, Jurnee Wilson and Christian Harper. A memorial service will be held at Westfield Chapel at 2 pm Tuesday, February 12, 2019. Interment at the Fayetteville National Cemetery (TBD). Online condolences www.WestfieldChapel.com.
