Six awesome VR experiences to try in Hong Kong

Escape reality completely and head to Hong Kong’s newest multiplayer virtual reality gaming centre, Zero Latency. There are five games to choose from which range from surviving an adrenaline-fulled zombie attack scenario to raiding an abandoned space station and battling robots and killer drones, to exploring a fantasy alien world where gravity doesn’t exist. The centre uses state-of-the-art wireless technology and equips players with VR headsets, headphones, military-style backpacks, and weapons, making this an unbelievably cool experience if you live for platform games and have an active imagination. From $298 per person

A high-tech VR arcade in the heart of Causeway Bay. At Playdium, you’ll find top-of-the-line Razer Computers,  HTC Vive VR goggles, as well technology that’s not even for sale. There’s no shortage of games either - from zombies and puzzle solving to painting and even therapeutic applications, Playdium has got it all. And yeah, there’s literally a miniature boxing ring to play VR boxing games, it’s pretty sweet. Experience games and electronic sports at a whole new level and plug yourself in the Matrix. $260/hour (weekday), $280/hour (weekend). 

The place to go in Hong Kong if you're keen to try the Virtuix Omni, an omni-directional gaming treadmill where gamers can literally walk in any direction they want. VR Arena invites players to fully immerse themselves in these virtual reality games – there are more than 19 games to pick from including zombie infested ones to shoot outs – transporting them to a whole new world without any spatial hindrance. $160/60 mins per person.

Taking zombie games to a whole level, Tsim Sha Tsui’s Sandbox VR invites gamers to fight the disease-ridden undead while attempting to escape an abandoned mansion – all in immersive VR. Sandbox claims to be the world’s first ‘hyper-reality’ escape room, where a squad of three to four friends have the entire green room to themselves for an hour to run wild and kick zombie butt. After the game, players can also enjoy viewing footages of themselves shooting at virtual monsters. Party rooms are not exactly scarce in Hong Kong, especially in Kwun Tong, but V-Owl Station boasts a pretty sweet spacious area (3,500 sq ft to be exact) complete with more than 250 popular VR games – Fruit Ninja, The Brookhaven Experiment and more) padded walls and comfy sofas. Though the venue usually splits the area into two zones, you can book both zones and battle your friends in epic four-player VR showdowns. What’s more, V-Owl is home to two 4D VR-motion chairs that simulate incredibly authentic motion experiences. Strap in for a rollercoaster ride. Starts from $150/half hour per zone.
