Recording shows senior Qatari official conspiring against Bahrain

Manama : Qatar conspired with Iran to overthrow the regime in the Kingdom of Bahrain during the 2011 events, a recent report has revealed.

The Qatari government allegedly contacted Tehran and the Bahraini opposition, specifically the recently dissolved Al Wefaq Society, to launch the so-called “Qatari Initiative”, establishing communications between the Society and the Iranian regime.

This was unfolded in a report recently released by a local journal and regional news agencies.

“The naturalisation of several Bahraini families in exchange for supporting militia movements that are designated as terrorist groups in Bahrain is one of the facets of Gulf and Arab nations’ decision to boycott Doha over Qatar’s interferences in the internal affairs of Bahrain. The policy appears to have one goal, which is to overthrow the existing Bahraini regime that would eventually lead to the arrival of people close to the Iranian regime to power,” the report showed, confirming that the efforts were done by the Qatari Prime Minister in that period Hamad bin Jassim Al Thani.

The report mentioned that these revelations have been hidden in order to maintain the unity of the GCC.

“The Iranian role in these events was clear and officials from Tehran did not hide their support for these events, but the role of Qatar was not exposed then,” the report read.

Revealing more on the former Qatari Prime Minister’s role, the report confirmed that he asked Al Wefaq Society during his contacts to coordinate with the allied associations to ensure the continuation of the protests in the GCC countries so that Qatar would pressure the government of Bahrain in order to open all the roads to the public, and stop the civil guards as well as popular checkpoints.

“Uncovered information showed that the then Qatari prime minister, in light of his contacts, outlined the Qatari initiative which asked Bahrain to carry out four basic steps that included guaranteeing the right to demonstrate to all citizens, shutting down the broadcast of Bahrain TV, releasing all detainees in juvenile prisons and the formation of a transitional government within two months.  These proposals were accepted by the Al Wefaq, especially after the Qatari official affirmed that Doha would be the main sponsor of such initiative.  The Government of Qatar presented these ideas to the Government of Bahrain, which completely rejected them, as they were considered interference in local internal affairs,” the report concluded.

This information was revealed as Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and other Arab and Islamic States recently boycotted Qatar for its support for terrorism and meddling in regional countries affairs, demanding it to reconsider its hostile policies. Iran-backed radical movement has killed more than 18 policemen and injured hundreds since the year 2011, under the cover of “peaceful protests to demand rights”.
