AMHERST — The Amherst-Pelham Regional School District has named two University of Massachusetts graduates as directors of athletics and nutrition.
Victoria Stewart, who has a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and exercise science, was named athletic director. She previously was assistant basketball coach at Merrimack College and Amherst College, the district said in a press release.
“My goals while coaching and teaching are surrounded by the ideas of creating a safe, fun and inclusive learning space for student-athletes, where they are not only able to compete athletically, but are also able to build character and gain the necessary tools in order to help them succeed throughout their lives,” Stewart said in a statement.
Michael Gallo O’Connell, who has a bachelor’s degree in business administration, was named school nutrition services director.
He “comes to the district from Hampshire College where he has served as the General Manager of their food service program since 2015,” the district said.
“Addressing food insecurity, using food as a cultural link for students, and increasing diversity of the workforce were areas of focus for Mr. O’Connell, and he looks forward to continuing that work with the Amherst, Pelham and Amherst-Pelham Regional Schools,” the statement said.
