Bel Air High School senior field hockey player Josie Mason of Forest Hill recently committed to attend Division II Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where she plans to study biology and play field hockey.
“I picked Converse among multiple offers due to the location in South Carolina. I loved the campus the moment I set foot on it and I clicked really well with the Converse field hockey coach,” Mason wrote in an email.
Mason has played field hockey for six years and with COVID-19 stopping high school sports in Harford County in 2020, she also participated in the High School Field Hockey League at Harford Tech High School last Fall. She also played two years on Bel Air’s junior varsity softball team before moving to the varsity team in her junior year, which was cut short because of the COVID-19 school closing.
Mason said she hopes to be able to play her senior softball season, pending COVID-19 school plans for spring 2021. She has been a member and leader of the Bel Air High Fellowship of Christian Athletes for her entire high school career.
Mason has also been a competitive travel gymnast for 16 years and counting at ACPR Gymnastics in Churchville. In her gymnastics career she has competed and placed in several Maryland State Gymnastics Championships.
She also played many seasons of Parks and Recreation soccer and softball with the Forest Hill Recreation Council and was an umpire with Forest Hill Recreation Council softball. Off the playing field, Mason has played the trumpet in the Bel Air High School Marching Band for three years and earned National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and Math Honor Society memberships during her junior year.
“I am planning to study biology at Converse College leading to a career in the medical field after graduation,” she wrote.
