Goodwill buys South Louisville retail center for new facility
A south Louisville retail center has sold to a major local nonprofit that plans to use it for a new facility.Goodwill Industries of Kentucky Inc. recently acquired retail properties at 6201, 6303, and 6321 Preston Highway and 453 Forest Drive for $4.5 million, according to a Jefferson County deed. The seller was Preston Street Group LLC."Although definitive plans haven’t been determined, preliminarily, we want to utilize that property to expand our retail footprint and provide mission-related service offerings to support individuals in South Louisville," said Barnard Baker, director of public relations and communications for Goodwill Industries of Kentucky.The size and scope of the planned Goodwill facility has not been finalized, and construction costs and a development timeline were not immediately available on the project.The retail center is home to numerous tenants, most notably an Aaron’s furniture, appliance and electronics store.There are no plans to demolish the facility, he added. Instead, Goodwill will invest in cosmetic upgrades and “functional renovation” to accommodate the new Goodwill operation there.This acquisition comes after Louisville Business First previously reported that Goodwill Industries of Kentucky acquired the roughly 20-acre site once home to a Sypris Technologies plant at 28th and Broadway in West Louisville, which it has scouted for a new headquarters and campus.Click here to read more about the developments from Louisville Business First.
