Students injured in bus crash in Meeker County

A bus carrying 15 students from Eden Valley - Watkins School District was involved in a motor vehicle crash on Friday. Two students suffered injuries, as did the driver of the vehicle that hit the bus.

EDEN VALLEY — Two young students from Eden Valley - Watkins School District were injured Friday morning when the school bus they were riding in was hit by a vehicle on CSAH 36 in Meeker County

The crash occurred at 7:26 a.m. Friday at the 59000 block of CSAH 36 in Manannah Township.

According to the Meeker County Sheriff's Office press release, an 8-year-old female and a 6-year-old female suffered minor non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to CentraCare Hospital in Paynesville.

There were 15 students on the bus at the time of the crash, according to the release.

Law enforcement learned at the scene that a vehicle driven by Alexis Wegner, 22, of St. James, was headed eastbound on CSAH 36, when it collided with the school bus from behind, according to the release. The bus, driven by Cheryl Danzeisen, 42, of Cold Spring, and operated by Eden Valley - Watkins, was stopped at a bus stop and did have its bus lights activated.

Wegner was also transported to CentraCare Hospital in Paynesville with non-life-threatening injuries.

Meeker County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the crash.

Assisting at the scene was the Meeker County Sheriff's Office, Eden Valley Fire and Rescue, Watkins Ambulance and Mayo Ambulance.
