BRUNSWICK COUNTY -- Jody Clemmons beat out challenger Elliot Swain by 5,185 votes --  38,986 to 33,801 -- to retain his seat as a Brunswick County Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor. Clemmons is a farmer from Supply.

The Brunswick County Soil and Water Conservation District is a local unit of state government that is overseen by a five-member board of supervisors. Three supervisors are elected and two are appointed by the N.C. Soil and Water Conservation Commission.

The organization helps implement programs that protect, conserve, and improve the county’s natural resources and educates the public on the importance of conservation. It also determines local soil and water conservation priorities and identifies best management practices.

One issue the Brunswick County Soil and Water District will need to address in the coming years is how to protect and conserve the area’s natural resources amid the area’s rapid growth. It will also continue to provide conservation initiatives such as incentive programs to farmers to prevent erosion. Finally, the organization will work to inform the public of the importance of conservation and how individuals can help protect our natural resources.

All election results are unofficial until the Nov. 16 canvass.
