An imposter, who allegedly tried to influence transfers/postings and even threatened Senior Railway officials to make purchase of medicines of a particular firm by posing as PA to the newly appointed Union Railway Minister, has been arrested by the Commissionerate Police from New Delhi.

The accused, identified as Gopal Satpathy, has been arrested by a special team of the Twin City police from the national Capital city.

Satpathy’s arrest was subsequent to two complaints registered against him at the Chandrasekharpur Police Station in Bhubaneswar.

It is alleged that Satpathy pressurised the General Manager of East Coast Railway (ECoR) for the transfer of a railway staff.

Apart from that, the accused also tried to influence a railway official for procuring medicines of a particular company by identifying himself as the Railway Minister’s PA.

Senior railway senior officials lodged a formal complaint against the accused after they learnt that Satpathy was an imposter who was trying to get various official works done by identifying himself as the personal assistant of the Railway Minister. Further investigations are on.

Bhubaneswar DCP, Umashankar Dash said, "Based on the complaint filed by the Railway officials, we had registered separate cases. The accused had posed himself as the PA of a Minister and used to cheat people. We have brought the accused on transit remand and he will be produced before the court."

The DCP informed that a detailed investigation will be conducted to ascertain whether the accused had duped other persons or business establishments or not.
