BROWN Thomas Dublin will officially launch its Christmas shop today - over 18 weeks before the big day.

Punters spotted Christmas trees popping up in their department stores across the country over the last few days, and now the Christmas section is ready for shoppers.

Brown Thomas Fashion Director Shelly Corkery revealed the news on Instagram, saying: "Christmas shop !!!! @officialbrownthomas ... Open tomorrow ...".
And while the news was welcomed by some shoppers, others reckoned it was far too soon.

One said: "Christmas in August ? ...."

Clare O'Connor added: "Oh noooo, we haven’t finished the summer yet".

Snaps of Christmas trees surfaced on social media on Monday, leaving some shoppers not too happy at the early sight of Christmas decorations, with one writing: "So @brownthomas have just ruined my week #HappyMonday".

But Brown Thomas Managing Director Stephen Searley previously revealed some customers love the chance to stock up months in advance.

He said: "The Christmas Shop at Brown Thomas opens in August every year and proves really popular with our customers.

"A lot of people like to get organised early – from interior designers sourcing special pieces to tourists looking to bring home something extraordinary – it satisfies customer demand."

And Brown Thomas Christmas Buyer Edel Woods told the Irish Sun last year: "We do get complaints from some customers telling us it’s disgraceful that we’re starting Christmas this early, but the same people will starting putting the stuff in their baskets."
