The fitness center at the Morton and Barbara Mandel Recreation Center is likely to have new members even before it opens.

The Palm Beach Recreation Department is offering membership package deals for the fitness center at 340 Seaview Ave., to residents only.

Director of Business Development and Operations Carolyn Stone said memberships are being offered to promote the recreation center to residents ahead of the scheduled opening on Dec. 6

“These prices will stay the same even after the fitness center opens,” Stone said.

The membership options available include monthly and annual passes. A monthly adult resident pass is $85; a three-month pass is $240; while a six-month pass is $336.

The annual adult resident pass is $480.

The daily pass for drop-in visitors is $15 for residents and $20 for non-residents.

The first 50 residents who purchase memberships will receive a commemorative gift, Stone said.

Beginning Dec. 7, the fitness center will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday; 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays; and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.

The fitness center is being marketed as “a boutique center in the heart of town offering cardio equipment, weight machines, and personal training and wellness programs for all fitness levels.”

Demolition for the recreation center began in August last year. Construction was approved by the Town Council in July after much debate, and a delay of about a year caused by a lawsuit. Although the building cost was $13.8 million when approved, the price tag increased slightly late last year to about $14 million after the council restored cast stone elements that had been eliminated.

Membership information is available online at www.townofpalmbeach.com and in the Seaview Park Tennis Center Pro Shop.

Registration can be done by calling 561-838-5485, or in person at the Seaview Park Tennis Center Pro Shop.
