Medical College of Wisconsin Receives $2M to Help Train Rural Doctors

The Sentry Insurance Foundation donated $2 million to the Medical College of Wisconsin intending to boost the number of physicians serving rural areas, according to Stevens Point Journal.

This is the largest gift given to the school and will go towards creating the Sentry Deanship at the Medical College of Wisconsin’s Wausau campus.

Through the donation, the school will recruit students from rural and underrepresented populations, build community relationships, establish more resources and create more robust support systems.

“The main purpose of the campus is our idea to use local talent and resources, which is in abundance,” said Dr. John Raymond, president and CEO of the Medical College of Wisconsin, to the Journal. “If we do that and make medical education affordable, then we are going to deal with the severe maldistribution of physicians.”
