Kane County’s Drug Rehabilitation Court is receiving a $500,000 three-year grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, officials announced Wednesday.

The grant will be used to enhance the existing adult drug court program and help people deal with drug addiction, according to a press release from the 16th Judicial Circuit Court.

The grant will help provide full residential treatment for 20 new participants each year and help participants with supportive living after they complete inpatient treatment, according to officials. The grant will also pay for medically-assisted treatment when insurance is not available.

This is the third three-year federal grant the county has received for the program since 2014, officials said.

Drug courts have proven to reduce substance abuse among high-risk, high-need participants, according to officials.

The county received one of 123 grants awarded nationwide to establish, assist and research the effectiveness of adult drug courts.
