NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Metro police are investigating a stabbing at an East Nashville Kroger Tuesday afternoon. 

Investigators identified the suspect as 37-year-old Fesnando Santos and charged him with aggravated assault.

The stabbing took place at the Kroger located at 711 Gallatin Road. Police were called to the store after receiving reports of an individual chasing another person inside the store with a knife.

MNPD says Santos was sweating profusely, yelling, and acting irrationally. When police arrived, they found Santos who complied with officers’ commands to drop the knife.

Santos sustained a self-inflicted knife wound to his hand and is accused of stabbing a male customer in the hand. Santos did not know the victim, and neither man sustained serious injuries.

Santos is being held in lieu of $500,000 bond. It’s not his first run in with the law, in 2019, he was convicted of reckless homicide for fatally stabbing a male acquaintance in the parking lot of Quality Inn on Brick Church Pike and was sentenced to two years.

The grocery store was closed for the rest of Tuesday. 

A Kroger spokesperson sent the following statement to News 2 regarding the incident:

“We are assisting the Metro Police Department in their investigation, and are very thankful there were no serious injuries.  The store will be closed for the remainder of the day and will re-open tomorrow morning at 6 am. “
