Jack Russell terrier bites girl; boxer dog bites neighbor: Berea Police Blotter

BEREA, Ohio

Animal bite, Stonewater Court

A Jack Russell terrier bit an 11-year-old girl’s leg at about 6 p.m. June 6 as the girl was visiting a neighbor who owns the dog.

The girl’s parents told the neighbors about the incident. The neighbors apologized and said they would put the dog to sleep, according to the girl’s parents. The parents said the dog had bitten other family members in the past and had bitten the same girl once before.

On June 19, the girl’s parents reported to police that the dog had not been put to sleep yet, and that the dog’s owners now said they would not do so. The dog’s owner warned the girl’s parents not to report the incident to police or they would file their own report against them, the girl’s parents said.

Animal bite, Baker Street

A boxer dog bit the arm of a neighbor at about 7:30 p.m. June 18.

The neighbor told police he was mowing his backyard lawn when the dog jumped over a fence and bit him, causing his skin to break and bruise. The neighbor knocked on the door of the dog’s owner, but the owner didn’t answer.

The neighbor refused medical treatment. The dog’s owner answered the door for police and said he was not aware of the incident. He said he had told his neighbor several times not to reach over the fence because the dog didn’t like him. However, the neighbor said he was not reaching over the fence when the dog attacked.

The dog’s owner provided medical records showing that the dog was up to date on his rabies vaccinations. Police reported the incident to the Cuyahoga County Board of Health.

Marijuana possession, West Bagley Road

A Middleburg Heights man, 20, was arrested at about 12:30 a.m. June 18 after police pulled over a car in which he was a passenger and discovered that he was wanted in Cleveland.

Police stopped the car, a Ford Focus, after seeing it traveling 45 mph on West Bagley near Lindberg Boulevard, a 35 mph zone. The car also drifted outside its lane and its high beams were on.

Police smelled marijuana in the car. The driver, a 19-year-old Parma woman, admitted having marijuana in the car’s center console. There was also a THC vape oil cartridge in the car. In addition, police found a vape pen with a THC oil cartridge, which the man admitted was his, under the passenger seat.

Police drove the man to a BP station on West 150th Street near Interstate 71, where they handed him over to Cleveland police. The woman was cited for the marijuana.

Disturbance, Pecan Drive

A Pecan man, 24, was cited and given a summons to appear in court after police spotted a small plastic bag containing marijuana and a glass pipe in his vehicle, which was parked in his driveway.

Police had responded to the home on a noise complaint at about 1:45 a.m. June 18. The caller had also reported that a bright light, on the man’s property, was shining on his house.

Police saw the man pacing back and forth in his driveway. He told police he had been working on his vehicle. Police smelled marijuana before noticing the bag of the drug and the glass pipe. The man promised to turn off the light and go inside his house for the night.

Marijuana possession, North Rocky River Drive

A Medina woman, 24, and a North Olmsted man, 26, were cited at about 9:50 p.m. June 17 after police found a plastic bag containing marijuana nuggets, a partially rolled marijuana cigar, two vape pens with THC oil cartridges and a glass pipe with burned marijuana in a Ford Fusion.

Police had pulled over the car after seeing it stopped left-of-center at the Emerson Avenue-North Rocky River red light. The car gradually turned right on red onto North Rocky River.

Police smelled marijuana in the car, but the man and woman denied smoking the drug. They said they had been around other people smoking marijuana earlier.

Police found a third vape pen with a THC oil cartridge, along with a box containing another THC oil cartridge, in the woman’s purse.
