Covenant Lady Scots Win Conference Volleyball Opener

Barbourville, KY - The Covenant College volleyball team opened its 2004 Appalachian Athletic Conference schedule with a 30-28, 30-27, 30-28 victory over Union College.

The Lady Scots (2-4, 1-0) got 12 kills and 14 digs from freshman outside hitter Val March, 10 kills from freshman outside hitter Cara Childers, and nine kills from freshman middle hitter Kate Hampson. Freshman setter Tina Gorab passed out 19 assists and served three aces, while senior setter CJ Eisenburg added 15 assists and seven kills.

Covenant's attack was aided by strong passing, as junior libero Stephanie Phillips had 21 digs and freshman defensive specialist Sarah Baker had 16. The Lady Scots play a non-conference match at Cumberland College on Saturday morning at 11:00.
