Obituary: Dorothy Evelyn Watkins, 95, of Cheshire

Dorothy was in the Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II. She was registered nurse at Yale New Haven Hospital and Elim Park Health Center.

CHESHIRE, CT - (From Alderson-Ford Funeral Home) Dorothy Evelyn Watkins, 95, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2020, at Yale New Haven Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late John Alden Watkins, who passed away in 2004.

Mrs. Watkins was born October 27, 1924, in Shoal Creek Township, IL, the daughter of the late George Harned and Freda (Busby) Weber. She was a graduate of Blackburn College, Carlinville, IL, and Washington University School of Nursing, St. Louis, MO. During World War II, she was in the Cadet Nurse Corps.

She was a Registered Nurse at Oakland Center Hospital in Royal Oak, MI. After devoting herself to raising her three children, she returned to the health care profession as a Registered Nurse at Yale New Haven Hospital, New Haven, CT, and finally, Elim Park Health Center, Cheshire, CT. Mrs. Watkins was an active member of the Lady Fenwick Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Cheshire, CT.

Mrs. Watkins is survived by her sons John Watkins of Somers, CT, Thomas Watkins and his wife Deborah Evans of Wicomico Church, VA, and David Watkins and his wife Andrea of Maynard, MA; as well as her six nieces and four nephews.

In addition to her husband and her parents, she is predeceased by her sisters Margaret Emory and Kathryn Stone, and brothers Henry Weber and Marvin Weber.

Arrangements – Funeral services and committal will be held at the convenience of the family at Hillside Cemetery, Paris, Maine. Friends may call at the Alderson- Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St. on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, from 4 to 7 PM.
