Bahrain Appeal Court Confirms 10-Year Jail For Iranian Spy

An appeal court in the Gulf State of Bahrain on Sunday confirmed the ten-year jail sentence given to a man accused of spying for Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards unit, the state-owned BNA news agency reported.

A lower court convicted the unnamed man in July 2011 on being found guilty of passing "military information and identifying sensitive sites in Bahrain" to two Iranian diplomats posted to Kuwait.

The reports said he was recruited as a paid agent by the diplomats when he visited relatives in Kuwait.

Bahrain alleges Iranian hands behind the Shiite uprising in the Sunni-ruled island nation which is home to the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet. Bahrain crushed the rebellion with the help of forces from neighboring Saudi Arabia.
