Kayaker goes missing near Clearlake Oaks, LCSO still searching

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, On Sunday, at approximately 8:20 p.m., deputies received a report of a missing kayaker near East State Highway 20 and Olsen Road in Clearlake Oaks.  Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the overdue kayaker’s girlfriend.  She told deputies that her boyfriend, Dylan Flanagan, was last seen at approximately 4:45 p.m. while kayaking on Clear Lake.  He was last seen wearing a navy colored Hawaiian shirt, straw hat, and pink shorts.  She called Flanagan on his cell phone at approximately 5:06 p.m. and he said he was on the kayak and was OK.  All subsequent calls went to his voicemail and no one has seen or heard from Flanagan.

Deputies contacted the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol Unit and requested their assistance.  Marine Patrol conducted a search of the area as well as a visual search of the shoreline along Highway 20 and Rattlesnake Island area.  Due to weather conditions and high wind, Marine Patrol ceased their search efforts until the following morning.

On Monday, Marine Patrol continued a search of Clear Lake for Flanagan.  At approximately 9:37 a.m., Marine Patrol units located a dark green kayak in the area of Widgeon Bay.  Deputies suspected the kayak to belonged to Flanagan and took possession of the kayak for safekeeping.  Marine Patrol continued their search of Clear Lake throughout the day and used side-scan sonar to assist in their search efforts.

At press time Tuesday, Marine Patrol units continued their search efforts and are actively searching Clear Lake for Flanagan.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is actively working with Flanagan’s family and friends in an effort to locate Flanagan.  The LCSO encourages anyone with information pertaining to Flanagan’s whereabouts to contact the central dispatch non-emergency line at: 707-263-2690

Mount Konocti Park public meeting Wednesday Oct. 20 at 6pm

Lake County Parks & Recreation will host a community meeting to solicit public input for potential improvements and increased recreational opportunities at Mount Konocti County Park.

The meeting will be held at 6pm in the Kelseyville Elementary School Multi-Use Room at 5065 Konocti Rd., Kelseyville, CA.

“Mount Konocti is not only one of our County’s most definitive landmarks, it offers extraordinary opportunities for outdoor recreation,” notes the County of Lake’s Public Services Director, Lars Ewing.  “Views from Wright Peak Summit have long captured the imagination of local residents and visitors, alike.  We want to build on what Mount Konocti County Park has to offer, and your input will help inform our next steps.”

Those who attend this in-person meeting are strongly encouraged to take appropriate COVID-19 precautions (social distancing; face coverings; hand washing), to ensure all participants can safely engage in this important community discussion.
