A small fire broke out Saturday evening at Disneyland. It was quickly extinguished, but not before social media spread word of the blaze far and wide.

For instance, this video of the fire was posted on YouTube.

Social media sentiment seemed to shift from fright on Saturday night to  jokes on Sunday.

Instagram user @dylan.smith.1998 posted a picture of text around 10 a.m. Sunday saying  “Small world is on fire? Oh, My, God. This is scary.” To which user @itsasmallworldclocktower responded: “At least everyone is ok.”

Sarah Angela, or Twitter user @_SarahMoff_, apparently a Boise State University student, tweeted about 4 p.m. Sunday “About to drop my mixtape on ‘It’s a Small World.’ Hope this one doesn’t catch on fire”

Stephie, or Twitter user @tigrrr13, from Southern California, tweeted “Oh man, good thing the ride wasn’t damaged”

Twitter user @navidsword, apparently didn’t get the memo that @tigrrr13 did and tweeted “#itsasmallworld seems to have gotten even smaller. Sorry @disneyland hope it’s fixable”

Grant Markin, a Los Angeles Twitter user that goes by @Gmarkin, seems to be anything but a fan of the iconic Disneyland attraction that was nearly damaged by the blaze. “Headline: It’s A Small World almost burns down but fire is extinguished. Millions upset with the firefighters,” he tweeted Sunday afternoon.

Cody McCracken, or @codyrockz, shared a similar sentiment Saturday night tweeting: “the plus side is it’s going to be an even smaller world now.”

But Joanne Mora, or Twitter user @JojoMora, was very scared for the ride’s fate late Saturday. “Oh no!! that’s my favorite ride!!,” she wrote.

Kay, or @MyDisneyOdyssey on Twitter, shared Joanne’s response. “So far I heard it was a tree next to #Itsasmallworld that caught on fire. I’m very glad no one got hurt.”

The fire began around 9:20 p.m. on a tree near the “It’s a Small World” attraction, said Disney spokeswoman Suzi Brown.

It was extinguished about half an hour later, Brown said.

Officials are still investigating the cause, of the fire, although they suspect it was related to the fireworks show. No one was injured and no damage was done to It’s A Small World, which was briefly closed because of the fire.

Lt. Bob Dunn with the Anaheim Fire Department said the fire was handled by Disney personnel.

Christopher Lastrapes, 34, Sherman Oaks, was with his wife when the fire broke out.

“We were in line for Mr. Toad when cast members started clearing guests out of Fantasyland,” he said. “At first I thought it might be a medical emergency. Then (I) soon learned about the fire.”
