Granville Ellis Corder died peacefully on Sunday, January 22, 2012 four days before his 85th birthday.

A lifelong resident of Chattanooga, Granville was a member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church. He graduated from Red Bank High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from American Electrical Company after which he enjoyed a long, happy retirement.

He was the son of the late Victor and Cora Sivley Corder. He was predeceased by his wife, Juanita Ringer Corder; his daughter, Sharon Joy Corder; and his sister, Martha McCurdy.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Carnes Corder; brother, Victor Corder, Chattanooga; sons, Robert (Linda) Corder, Chattanooga; Douglas (Nell) Corder, Lake Oswego, Oregon; and Vernon (Pamela) Corder, Chattanooga.

Granville was blessed with grandchildren, Chris (Angelique) Corder, Michelle Corder, Amber (Jerry) Bell, Nathaniel Corder, and Travis Corder, of Chattanooga; Victoria Corder, New York; Alex Corder, Memphis; and Lucas Diamond, Lake Oswego, Or. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, Sarah Corder, Kaitlyn Corder, Zachary Corder, Kaylee Bell, and Hunter Bell of Chattanooga. Surviving stepchildren are Wilma (David) Gore, Smyrna, Tn.; Brenda Carnes, Chattanooga; and Bronny Carnes, Dalton, Ga.

A friend to all, Granville’s quick wit and loving nature will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, January 25, from 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 26, in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Tylan Blansit officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park.
