NEW LENOX, IL — The New Lenox Fire Protection District has canceled its Family Fun Day, which was scheduled for Aug. 1. The annual event showcases fire and other safety lessons for all ages.

The event has been hosted for over a decade, and offers children's activities, demonstrations, fire engine rides and other displays, a release from the fire district says.

“We want to thank our residents and businesses for their unwavering support over the last few
months,” Fire Chief Adam Riegel said in a release. “We know everyone has been effected by the pandemic in one way or another during these difficult times, and we were looking forward to a day to bring families together to learn about safety in a fun environment. However, we want to make sure the health and safety of our residents, vendors and first responders was our top priority in making the decision to cancel the event.”
