Driver dies, 2 families safe in vehicle/home fire

One person is dead and the occupants of two homes are safe after a car went into a Cumberland Street, North Cornwall Township home late Sunday and caught two structures on fire.

One vehicle went off the road and into 2240 West Cumberbland Ave. at 11:43 p.m. Sunday night and caught fire, according to Officer John Howser with North Cornwall Township Police. The home the car hit caught on fire, as did one next to it.

 

Police will not identify the driver until the next of kin has been notified, Howser said.

The accident is still under investigation and no other official information is public at this time.

Annville-Cleona, Speedwell, Neversink, Ebenezer, South Lebanon and Lebanon City fire departments responded to the three-alarm blaze as well as ambulance personnel. 

The occupants of this residence at 2240 West Cumberland St. were able to get out safely after a car crashed into the home and the car caught fire late Sunday, Jan. 20.
