It should be left for an hour and a half on 'warm' before being cranked up to 'low' for 30 minutes, he explained.

The post, which was made on a popular slow cooking Facebook Page, attracted plenty of attention.

Some foodies played along, with one woman sharing a picture of a 'slow cooked cup of tea' urging people lucky enough to have two slow cookers to try both recipes at once.

'I have a diet version, same except you don't add the toast or the butter,' one woman joked.

Others asked for more specific instructions including what kind of bread was used.

'Can you post the recipe? Did it need some sort of rub or did you marinade the bread for several hours beforehand? Also was there a specific temperature required?,' one man asked.

'Did you put a towel under the lid?' joked another.

One bread-lover said the toast looked 'too rare' for their liking.

But some helpful fans said he could brown it up using a grill or toaster or simply leave it in the slow cooker for another hour.

Others missed the joke entirely.

'I usually put mine in the toaster, takes two minutes,' noted one man.

'Why would you do this when it takes max four minutes in the toaster and is fine,' said another.

One went so far as to tell the home cook to 'get a grip' declaring the slow-cooked toast recipe a step too far.

'It is a joke guys, because so many people post ridiculous slow cooked recipes on here, grow a sense of humour,' one woman wrote.

The recipe has been shared more than 400 times with 5000 people liking and commenting on the post.
