Waupun home sustains significant damage in fire Thursday morning

A fire significantly damaged a two-story home Thursday, Sept. 19, 2019, in the 100 block of Bly Street in Waupun.

WAUPUN – A home is significantly damaged after a fire broke out in its basement Thursday morning.

Just after 12:30 a.m. Thursday, a neighbor noticed a fire in a home in the 100 block of Bly Street in Waupun and called 911. When firefighters arrived, they saw flames coming from a basement window of the home, according to the fire department.

Crews put out the fire in the two-story home within 30 minutes but remained on the scene for two hours to work on “overhaul,” according to the fire department.

Fire and smoke significantly damaged the basement, and other floors of the home also had smoke damage, according to the fire department. The cost of the damage was not yet known as of Friday morning..

While no one was injured in the fire, two dogs in the home were taken to a local veterinary clinic for overnight observation, according to the fire department. One person was displaced.

Authorities continue to investigate the fire’s cause but as of Friday morning did not consider it suspicious.

In addition to the Waupun Fire Department, Alto and Brandon-Fairwater fire departments, the State Fire Marshal’s Office, Waupun Police Department, Lifestar Ambulance and Waupun Utilities also responded to the scene.
