Top Fashion Tips for Autumn and Winter of 2020

Fashion is a fast moving industry, so it can be hard to keep up with the latest trend.

2020 has been a bit of a washout for everyone, but as things start to settle into a new normal, we can look forward to autumn and winter, and how to keep ourselves on trend.

Let’s have a look at how to make the second half of 2020 even more trendy.

Match Your Mask

Whilst some parts of the world have been using face masks or face coverings in parts of the world for many years now, in many countries having to wear a face mask most of the time is a new concept.

In some circumstances, a certain standard of mask is needed, but for day to day life, you have a bit more freedom in what you wear as a face covering.

Fabric face masks with a replaceable filter are very common, and these give you the ability to match your mask to your outfit.

If you personalise your clothes after you have bought them, either yourself, or with a seamstress, you can use the offcuts to create a matching mask.

If you don’t have the ability to use the exact same fabric, you can still buy or make masks in similar or even contrasting colours and patterns to the items in your wardrobe. If you have to wear a mask, you might as well have fun with it, and stay fashionable.

Bright Colours

Bright colours are huge for autumn and winter this year. Whether this is because everyone has had such a bad start to this year not, but everyone wants some fun in their lives, and you can do this by adding some bright colours to your wardrobe.

Bright colours are being seen across every type of clothing, from maxi dresses to suits for work, bright, vibrant, in your face colours are where it’s at this winter.

So go bold, or go home! In particular red was a colour seen time and time again at fashion shows, but choose whichever colour you like best, just make sure it’s bright!

Don’t forget when you’re shopping that in this current climate, you should not be touching or handling things more than absolutely necessary, hopefully shops are making sure than any labels for clothing are fully visible to keep social distancing rules in place.

Brown and Black

In contrast to the extremely bold colours, the other colour combo that has been seen everywhere this season is brown and black.

One of the hard and fast fashion rules of the past is that brown and black should never be seen together, but in true 2020 style we are throwing the rule book out of the window this year and doing what we like.

Wear brown and black together, and you will look chic and on point.

Across the catwalks, brown leather, or pleather, jackets were also seen everywhere. So wear a black suit and a brown leather jacket over it, or go for black slim trouser or jeans with your brown leather jacket.

Balloon Dresses

Balloon dresses, or puffball skirts are one of things that are either loved or hated by fashionistas everywhere.

Love or hate them however, these types of dresses come in and out of fashion every few years and this is the year they are back.

It’s hard to style a balloon dress for everyday wear, but for a special occasion, you will be right on trend.

Camel Tones

As any fashion follower knows, neutral, camel type tones have been around for several seasons now, and they are staying a firm favourite for this season too.

So when you are dressing in neutral, to follow the fashion, the neutral palate should be kept head to toe, we’re talking jumpers, skirts, shoes and bags.

You don’t have to wear the exact same colours, but rather vary the different tones of the same palette for a truly chic look.

However, saying this, you can add a splash of blue in homage to the bold colours that are also being seen everywhere. So they could be with a blue coat or a blue bag, to give the outfit a bit of a lift.

Maxi Coats

Maxi coats are back in a big way for 2020 autumn and winter. Maxi means meaxi, we’re talking one that almost, but not quite, touches the tops of your shoes.

There are so many different styles of coats available out there, and for this season you will be able to find your favourite style of jacket, but in floor length.

Your favourite colour to wear is fine for this, but the colour seen most commonly is yellow. Any shade of yellow that suits your skin tone is fine, but make it yellow!

Tiger Print

Leopard print has been a staple in wardrobes around the world for years and years now. Leopard print is a classic and won’t be going anywhere soon.

Every year different animal prints come on to the runways, and this year is the turn of tiger print.

You could go bold with a tiger print coat, or just add accessories such as a handbag or shoes in the print.

Of course, always make sure any fur you wear is faux, real fur doesn’t look good on anybody.

Slouch Boots

Slouch boots are back in a big way, given us all 80s throwback vibes, especially given that white is the most popular colour.

These boots are knee high, but have a lovely slouched look to them, which gives them a much more relaxed vibe.

Wear with a long knitted dress, or with a shorter dress and tights for that cosy, winter look.

Fashion is meant to be fun, and in 2020 we all need some fun. So whether you go for bold, bright colours, or if you keep it classic with camel colours, just have some fun with your clothing, and express your personality with them.
