May 24—Visiting Wyoming Area needed three runs in the top of the eighth inning to finally outlast MMI Prep 5-2 in a WVC Division 2 softball makeup game played Friday.

The Warriors (9-8) opened the scoring with two in the top of the first, but MMI pitcher Kaylee Witner settled in and blanked Wyoming Area over the next six innings.

Meanwhile, the Lady Preppers tied the game in the bottom of the fifth thanks in part to Witner's RBI-single. Irene Altmiller and Grace Warner scored the MMI runs during the uprising.

After Wyoming Area broke back on top in the top of the eighth, Warriors pitcher Steph Nowak threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth to secure the victory.

In the circle, Witner scattered 10 hits, walked three and fanned seven for MMI.

The Lady Preppers (7-12) will travel to Lackawanna Trail for a District 2 Class A quarterfinal Tuesday. Game time is 4:30 p.m. The winner will play at top-seeded Old Forge on Thursday.
