Cole Irvin earns 1st Oregon baseball win since injury

Cole Irvin earned his first win after missing last season with an elbow injury, throwing 52/3strong innings Sunday to lead the Oregon baseball team past Arizona State 5-1 and avoiding a sweep at the hands of the Sun Devils.

Irvin (1-1) allowed a run on four hits, striking out five and walking one.

“That’s as close to freshman Cole as I’ve seen, which is good,” head coach George Horton said. Irvin was 12-3 with a 2.48 ERA in 2013 as a freshman.

Matt Eureste had a two-run triple in a three-run second inning for the Ducks (15-8, 2-4 in Pac-12 play), giving the Ducks a lead they would not relinquish.
