Going off the grid doesn't mean having to camp in the wilderness and battling the elements.

Nowadays, there are some incredible remote hotels around the world that are ideal for escaping into some incredible landscapes, while still offering plenty of luxury with incredible rooms, private pools and spectacular surroundings.

We're talking a luxury camp in Antarctic scenery, a swanky lodge hidden in South Africa's wilderness, and some dreamy lavish hotels nestled amidst the lush jungle greenery.

Of course with the coronavirus pandemic, currently travel restrictions mean holidays to some of these spots are off the cards for Brits - but it doesn't hurt to dream a little for the days when we can travel properly again.

We take a look at the world's top 10 most incredible remote hotels. Check out the list below...

1. Fogo Inn, Canada

This quirky inn sits on an 'island, off an island' and has just 29 rooms, each offering dramatic views of the rugged, rocky landscape and ocean.

Its remote location is ideal for those who want to feel like they're out in the wilderness - but with the chic rooms and fine dining restaurant, you'll still have heaps of modern comforts at your fingertips.

The inn is owned by charity Shorefast, and all of its profits are re-invested in the community of Fogo Island.

Prices start from approximately £1,148 for stays in 2021.

2. Mashpi Lodge, Ecuador

Mashpi Lodge (

This resort is nestled away in the middle of a private 2,965-acre nature reserve, so you really are immersed in the lush green setting.

The site is in a remote location so you can enjoy the sounds of nature, including the various bird calls - over a quarter of Ecuador's bird species live in the reserve.

There's an observation tower for guests who want to take in views of the canopy, or adventurers can take on the 'Dragonfly' zip line experience.

As for the hotel itself? Expect luxurious suites, restaurants serving up gourmet dishes, and even an on-site spa.

Stays are on an all-inclusive basis, which covers most of the activities from birdwatching to hikes.

Prices start from $7,088 (approx £5,503) based on a seven-night stay in May 2021.

The island itself is barren and has been previously described as 'inhabitable', not to mention it can only be reached by boat or helicopter.

Have no fear though - the hotel boasts chic and modern decor, while the on-site restaurant serves up some seriously delicious local fare.

Prices start from £442pp a night, which includes breakfast and dinner.

4. Deplar Farm, Iceland

It's easy to go off the grid at this converted sheep farm in the heart of Fljót Valley, sitting in the Troll Peninsula of northern Iceland.

In the summer expect sprawling green countryside, towering peaks and heaps of fun adventures to be had, while come winter those floor-to-ceiling windows are ideal when the Northern Lights shine brightly across the night skies.

The hotel may be remote, but there's plenty to do from hiking and cycling to whale watching in the surrounding fjords - or of course, the on-site spa never fails to be a hit with guests!

Prices vary depending on your chosen season and activities.

5. Skylodge Suites, Peru

Natura Vive's Skylodge Adventure Suites are not for the faint-hearted; they're literally hanging off the side of a mountain, 1200ft above the ground below.

Still, that makes for some pretty spectacular views of the Sacred Valley of Cuzco in Peru.

The capsules themselves are fully transparent and include a toilet and sink, not to mention a dining area so you can enjoy breakfast with a view.

The only way to reach them is either by zipline, or climbing their ferrata (ladder-like steps).

Prices start from approximately £292pp, but can vary depending on whether you choose the zipline or ladder steps.

Then there's the location in the huge reserve meaning you can go on plenty of game drives and water safaris, not to mention activities on offer include tree top yoga sessions, bush walks, river swimming.

Unfortunately, this one's definitely a 'dream destination' stay - prices start from £9,072 a night, although the silver lining is that it's on an all-inclusive basis.

The lodge itself offers a rustic chic feel, but there are some pretty incredible suites with direct views of the surrounding lush greenery (not to mention private pools and outdoor bath tubs).

Guests can enjoy heaps of different activities including canyoning, hiking and birdwatching.

Prices start from $1,061 (approx £825) a night for stays in spring 2021.
