Keith Urban to Headline Nashville New Year’s Eve Party
Back in May, Keith Urban persuaded thousands to skip out on lunchtime meetings (or, more likely, play hooky for the entire workday) to watch him perform a free mid-day concert outside Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.
And this holiday season, he’s gearing up for another outdoor party: Urban has been named the headliner of the city’s New Year’s celebration, officially titled the 2016 Jack Daniel’s Music City Midnight: New Year’s Eve in Nashville. A Thousand Horses and Charlie Worsham also represent country music, with classic rockers Styx, Nashville alt-rock band Moon Taxi and vocal group the Fisk Jubilee Singers rounding out the genre-busting lineup.
Urban, who’s nominated for four CMA Awards, including Entertainer of the Year, at next month’s ceremonies, will rev up the crowd for the annual December 31st fireworks display and music-note drop. The eighth-annual celebration, which is free and open to the public, moves from the Lower Broadway honky-tonk district to a new home this year, the Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park, with the Tennessee State Capitol serving as the backdrop. Last year’s New Year’s Eve concert featured Kings of Leon and Chris Stapleton.
“What could be better than New Year’s Eve in Nashville!!!!” Urban tweeted about the announcement. Currently on his Ripcord World Tour, Urban will perform in Bismarck, North Dakota, tonight, with a Nashville homecoming show set for November 11th.
