Parlor Gallery Celebrates a Decade of Art, Culture, and Community

A community institution, the Parlor Gallery was opened with the goal of being an inspiring, approachable and creative space. Now, a decade later Parlor Gallery continues to dedicate their passions to providing a venue for artists of all levels from all over the world to exhibit their works in the state of New Jersey. Parlor Gallery celebrates a 10 year anniversary with a specially curated exhibit, "Square Pegs" opening on Saturday, February 9th from 7-11pm.

Opening its doors on February 7th, 2009 with its inaugural exhibition, “Glamour Bomb”, a decade later the gallery looks forward to it’s 10th Anniversary Exhibition, “Square Pegs”. Over the life of the space the team at Parlor Gallery, directed by Jenn Hampton and Jill Ricci, has curated over 80 exhibitions and have worked with over 600 artists. This kind of work provides an influx of artists as well as the export of local art, both of which are vital to Asbury Park. For this special exhibition, there will be over 100 Parlor artists that have all contributed one piece of art to exhibit for our "trip down memory lane".

“We hope to make Asbury Park a place that people look to for the arts through our efforts at Parlor Gallery. Ideally, we wanted to educate our community and give exposure to contemporary art and artists. We love working with our community in Asbury Park as well as bringing artists from beyond to experience our city”, says Hampton.

Looking ahead, Parlor Gallery will be diversifying its efforts in an ever-expanding mission to bring art to more people and places. This includes offering art consulting for hospitality, corporate, and residential opportunities, as well as private consulting for collectors. Artist Howard Schoor, who was in residence at Parlor Gallery last year, created a collection for the budding collector starting at $150 for original artwork called ‘Little Gems’. “Everyone should be able to own a piece of original artwork,” Schoor said. A piece of Schoor’s art, ‘Beachy Triangles’, will be hanging in the Square Pegs Exhibit at Parlor Gallery.

Also of note, Parlor Gallery is also about to enter the 4th year of the beloved public art endeavor at the Asbury Park Boardwalk, the Wooden Walls Project. Jenn Hampton, of Parlor Gallery serves as the creator and curator for the beloved endeavor.

Parlor Gallery is located at 717 Cookman Ave, on the "arts bloc" in Asbury Park.

"Square Pegs" will be on view from February 9th till March, 25th, 2019 and is free and open to all.
