El Paso County sheriff's deputies in Canutillo arrest suspects wanted in assault case

Suspects sought in an assault case fled from sheriff's deputies as they approached them, officials said.

Laura Gutierrez, 21, and Jesus Lopez, 25, were spotted by deputies walking Tuesday in the 7500 block of Doniphan Drive in Canutillo, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office officials said.

Deputies attempted to make contact with Gutierrez and Lopez since they matched the description of two people wanted in an assault case by law enforcement, officials said.

No information was released on the assault case.

Both suspects fled on foot as deputies approached them, officials said.

Gutierrez and Lopez were arrested without incident after a short foot pursuit.

They were arrested on suspicion of evading arrest and detention.

Gutierrez and Lopez were booked into the El Paso County Jail on a $500 bond each. Both posted bail Wednesday, jail logs show.
