Several Boston-area restaurants are opting to shut down for the winter season during the pandemic. For some, going dark is the only way to stay afloat. They hope to return in the spring when diners can eat outdoors again. We’ll update this list routinely.
A&B Kitchen & Bar The burger joint hopes they can reopen in January, when new local, state, and federal aid measures come in, according to an announcement from owner Thomas Holland. “After careful consideration and looking at every possible scenario with our management team, investors, accountants, and landlord, we’ve all come to the agreement that going into hibernation gives us the best chance,” he wrote. 115 Beverly St., Boston
Abby Lane will close for the winter “at most” due to a lack of Theatre District tourists and patio seating. 253 Tremont St., Boston
Atlántico Just a few short months after opening in October, Select Oyster Bar’s sibling restaurant is saying bye to its diners — temporarily. 600 Harrison Ave., Boston
The Bacon Truck There will be fewer bacon-smothered creations for all of us to enjoy this winter. This food truck closed shop for the season on Oct. 15, according to an Instagram announcement.
The Barbara Lynch Collective’s restaurants (Menton, No. 9 Park) have begun to go into hibernation. Beginning Dec. 31 through February, all restaurants will be closed with the exception of The Butcher Shop, Drink, and Sportello, which will offer takeout until Dec. 31. After Dec. 31, only The Butcher Shop will offer takeout and delivery. Various locations, Boston
Buff’s Pub in Newton, beloved for its wings, has temporarily shuttered with plans to reopen soon. “Out of an abundance of caution, Buff’s will be temporarily closed to keep our staff and customers safe,” they announced on Facebook. 317 Washington St., Newton

Canary Square in Jamaica Plain will remain “shuttered until this gets better,” they write on Facebook. 435 South Huntington St., Boston
Catalyst in Kendall Square will go dark through the winter, with plans to reopen in warm weather, says owner William Kovel. 300 Technology Square, Cambridge
Colette Wine Bistro has temporarily closed in Porter Square, though sister restaurant Frenchie remains open in Boston. They will continue to sell gift cards. 1924 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge
Commonwealth The seven-year-old Kendall Square restaurant, market, and event space closed for the cold weather way back on Sept. 25. “Hibernation is what it is, and survival is what this is all about,” owner Steve Postal told Eater. 1 Broad Canal Way, Cambridge
Daddy Jones plans to be closed through March, according to their Facebook post. “Mentally & financially, we need to be able to go into patio season strong, excited and better,” it read. 525 Medford St, Somerville
Daedalus in Harvard Square will “look forward to being your outdoor dining destination in 2021,” according to a Facebook post. 45 Mt. Auburn St., Cambridge
Dali tapas bar is now on hiatus until March or April, according to a social media post from the restaurant. “We hope this sacrifice assures our future survival and that we can enjoy each other’s company as soon as it’s safe to venture out again,” they write. 415 Washington St., Somerville
Delux Cafe has signed off for the season and will remain shuttered until further notice, per an Instagram farewell. 100 Chandler St., Boston

Democracy Brewing The brewpub announced its temporary closure in an Instagram post, explaining that its sales have been down 85 percent since reopening in July. 35 Temple Place, Boston
Dos Diablos and Two Saints Tavern The connected bar and taqueria is raising money for its staff through a GoFundMe during the seasonal closure. 52 Gainsborough St., Boston
The Emory The Beacon Hill barroom and kitchen that reopened in July is now closed “until further notice,” according to an Instagram announcement. 21 Beacon St., Boston
The Gaff in Waltham went “on hold” in late November. “Due to the rising risk of Covid-19, our extremely small footprint, the lack of viable tables and an unforgiving increase in government restrictions, we will be putting our business on hold after almost 12 years,” a Facebook announcement read. 467 Moody St., Waltham
In Jamaica Plain, Galway House is taking a break. “The current situation we are all going through is not possible for us to remain viable,” they wrote on Facebook. “It’s going to be a long dark winter for us all.”
Fenway’s Game on is closing for the winter. In an announcement on its website, the spot reminded people to tip servers well elsewhere. 82 Lansdowne St., Boston
Gray’s Hall This South Boston wine bar closed up patio seating and sit-down service in late October. Now, it’s offering occasional takeout and pop-up options, which will be announced on Instagram. 615 East Broadway, Boston

haley.henry is calling it quits for the winter. “[O]ptimism and determination can’t save you from the reality of daunting business numbers; from rising COVID cases, to nights of zero sales, to looking out on a lonely, darkened street with no pedestrians,” they wrote on Instagram. 45 Province St., Boston
Highland Kitchen “We are extremely sad to say we have made the difficult decision to hibernate through this winter. Sunday will be our last shift. This was not an easy decision to make and we have tried to hold on as long as possible. We have been unable to get any rent relief,” the beloved comfort-food joint wrote on Instagram. Jeveli’s Owner Eric Jeveli told the Globe in November that the nearly century-old Italian spot will not offer winter service this year. “We tried. There’s not enough customers to stay open right now,” he said. 387 Chelsea St., East Boston
The Kenmore An Instagram announcement said that the Kenmore Square spot will be “firing up the kitchens” and serving comfort food again after a winter hibernation. 476 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston
Little Donkey Led by James Beard award winners Ken Oringer and Jamie Bissonnette, this Central Square tapas restaurant and raw bar is shutting down for the season. 505 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge
The Lansdowne Pub closed at least until March on Nov. 28, as announced in a Facebook post. 9 Lansdowne St., Boston

Milk Street Cafe, located among the offices in downtown Boston, paused its cafe and catering operations on Oct. 28. 50 Milk St., Boston
Miracle of Science Bar & Grill The Cambridge bar is hibernating to the end of the cold weather, or until there’s a vaccine. “Be safe. Stay positive. Test negative,” the spot wrote in an Instagram announcement. 321 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge
Monica’s Trattoria, a North End favorite, is in hibernation. 67 Prince St. #1827, North End
Oak Long Bar + Kitchen will close until April 1, according to a Facebook post, though they’ll continue to sell gift cards for future use. The Fairmont Copley Plaza remains open. “This certainly isn’t goodbye; it’s farewell for now,” they write. 138 St. James Ave., Boston
Oak + Rowan in Fort Point will hibernate until March. 321 A St., Boston
Orfano Tiffani Faison temporarily closed her Fenway restaurant and plans to reopen in the spring. 1391 Boylston St., Boston
Orinoco has closed its Brookline and Harvard Square locations. Its South End branch will continue to serve a Venezuelan menu for takeout, catering, and socially distant dining. 22 Harvard St., Brookline and 56 John F. Kennedy St., Cambridge
The Painted Burro and sister restaurant Rosebud in Davis Square are closing for the winter. “We aren’t calling this a hibernation because that feels cute and sounds natural, and this is anything but that. This is sad and devastating to our team and all the companies we do business with. We need aid and relief from our city and government that we just aren’t getting right now,” they write. 219 Elm St. and 381 Summer St., Somerville
Porto in the Back Bay will hibernate January through March. Sister restaurant Saloniki will remain open in Central Square, Harvard Square, and the Fenway. Ring Road, Boston
Prezza This well-loved Italian spot began hibernating in December, as did sister restaurants Tonno in Gloucester and Wakefield and Blue Ox in Lynn. They plan to reopen in 2021. 24 Fleet St., Boston
Puritan & Company The Inman Square spot shifted to takeout and delivery service only on Dec. 2. Dine-in service will not be available for “a few months,” per a statement. 1166 Cambridge St., Cambridge
Rail Stop The Brighton restaurant-bar closed in December, out of an “abundance of caution.” They plan to reopen in early spring. 96 Guest St., Boston
Select Oyster Bar The beloved Back Bay seafood restaurant will welcome customers again in the spring. 50 Gloucester St., Boston
Spoke Wine Bar The intimate spot, with its extensive wine list and small plates menu, closed for the season in early December. It sold gift baskets through the holidays. 89 Holland St., Somerville
Shay’s in Harvard Square headed into hibernation in mid December. 58 JFK St., Cambridge
SRV shut down on Dec. 20. “We’ll be looking forward to celebrating life’s special moments with you on the other side of our reopening,” the Venetian restaurant wrote on Facebook. 569 Columbus Ave., Boston
State Park, from the team behind Mamaleh’s, is temporarily closed. 1 Kendall Square, Cambridge
Toscano The Tuscan restaurant will close its Beacon Hill and Harvard Square locations until spring. 47 Charles St., Boston and 52 Brattle St., Cambridge
Trade in the Financial District will remain closed until further notice. 540 Atlantic Ave., Boston
