Kreager: Game stopped when fan confronts referee
The aunt of an Overton football player was removed from Friday night's Region 3-6A contest with Ravenwood after she came onto the field to confront a referee after her nephew received a hard hit at the end of a run.
The incident came toward the end of the third quarter of Overton's 34-16 win over the Raptors after running back Taverius Travis sustained a blow to the head at the end of a run. No penalty flag was thrown on the play.
Travis was shaken up and slowed to get up after the play.
"I just didn't want anything bad to happen," said Overton coach Steve Williams, who quickly got in front of the woman and escorted her to the sideline.
The game was stopped momentarily for the incident.
The woman hopped the chain-link fence and walked up to the bleachers before she was escorted out of the game.
Trousdale County coach dismissed
Trousdale County football coach David Barker was dismissed as a physical education teacher and coach immediately following the Yellow Jackets' 38-21 win over visiting Middle Tennessee Christian School.
"He has stolen fuel from the county pump," Troudale County Director of Schools Clint Satterfield told The Tennessean after the game. "He has put fuel in his personal vehicle."
Trousdale County Sheriff Ray Russell told The Tennessean on Tuesday that his department is still investigating, but plans on turning it over to the district attorney.
"We’re finishing up our investigation and plan to turn it over to the district attorney the first of next week," Russell said. "We'll let him look at it and see about prosecution."
Russell said those using the county pump have a key in their name with a code to punch in that records how many gallons of fuel they have pumped.
"It is on a computer how much usage they've had," Russell said. "He's got a key to get fuel for the tractors and mowers.
"We still have to go back to see how many gallons were taken. I don't know the price of fuel. It's been up and down. We have to look each week to see how much it was each week."
Barker has denied any wrongdoing, Satterfield said. Barker did not respond to an interview request on Friday night.
"I have enough evidence in my possession to dismiss him," Satterfield said.
Trousdale County assistant principal Ben Johnson has been named the interim coach. He has been working with the team as a defensive consultant.
Comeback Bears
Antioch came back from a 27-8 fourth-quarter deficit to beat Lebanon 32-27 in a Region 3-6A contest.
Blake Wiggins scored the final two touchdowns of the night for the Bears when he recovered a fumble for a score and reeled in a 21-yard touchdown pass from Noah Scales to cap the comeback.
Scales was 15 of 38 passing for 208 yards with two TDs and two interceptions.
Record night
Christian Academy of Knoxville quarterback Cole Smith surpassed former CAK QB Charlie High's TSSAA record of 10,978 career yards set in 2012 in a 42-27 win over McMinn Central.
Smith was 12 of 20 passing for 174 yards and four touchdowns. He now has 11,032 yards for his career.
Masterful night
Blackman claimed its fourth straight win Friday night behind the legs of running back Master Teague. Teague had 11 carries 168 yards and three touchdowns.
